Singapore Honeymoon - Pan Pacific Serviced Suites on Beach Road

Room Tour Video on YouTube - Click HERE

Hi Everyone,

So, you may or may not know that Chris and I got married in September 2016 and for our Honeymoon we wanted to travel somewhere we had never been before.  I spent many hours/days, maybe even weeks online researching the best destinations for a relaxing Honeymoon and trying to find the best hotel that we afford along with saving for our wedding.  We decided on Dubai and Mauritius... Dubai and Mauritius you ask?!... This is a blog post on Singapore and Bali!  Well... It has been on our bucket list for many years to travel to Mauritius but for some unbeknown reason I suggested Singapore instead of Dubai as we have already been fortunate to have travelled to Dubai before and we like to explore new places.  Upon researching Singapore I happened to notice that it was Formula 1 race weekend in Singapore the weekend after week tied the knot!  As soon as I mentioned this to Chris, that was it, there was no chance I would be able to convince him not to go to Singapore!

It made sense to twin-centre this with with another destination in that area of he world and after researching we fell in love with the idea of visiting Bali.

When trying to choose a place to stay I like to do a lot of research, I mean a lot!  My first requirement for our Singapore hotel was that it needed to be in a good location for the Formula 1, it needed to be of a high standard, minimum 4 star but preferred 5 star, and it needed to have a lot of good reviews online.  Most importantly it needed to also be a good price too.  After narrowing it down to around 3 hotels we chose the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites on Beach Road.  The hotel looked great online, the reviews were positive and it was close to the underground tube/MRT station so we were able to get around the city easily.  The hotel was within walking distance from Gate 1 of the Formula 1 race track which was great too!

Now to the hotel review...

We arrived in Singapore at around 5.30am on Thursday 15th September 2016 and we was able to flag down a taxi which got us to the hotel rather quickly at that time of the morning.  Unfortunately at this time of morning our room which had been allocated to us wasn't ready for us, we expected this so it wasn't a big issue.  We was rather hungry at this point so we had a short walk around the city but we was unable to find any restaurants near our hotel that were open at this time.  We walked back to our hotel and decided to wait for the restaurant to open for breakfast.

The breakfast

The hotel offers quite a good breakfast in my opinion, probably not as much on offer compared to other hotels that we have stayed in but there were plenty of options available each day.

Every day you can expect to find the following:
Self-serviced tea and coffee machine
Water and juices
Fresh fruit
Various flavours of yoghurt
Bread selection with the option to toast
Hot food options - these varied each day but there was eggs and beans available and you could also order eggs cooked to customer preferences, scrambled, fried, poached etc.  They usually offered a special each day, one day they was offering eggs benedict.

The restaurant wasn't very big so at peak times we was asked to share tables with other guests which we thought was very unusual but we happened to have some great conversations with other guests which we thought was actually quite nice.

*Please note that breakfast and housekeeping is not available on Sundays or public holidays.

Check In

We asked the reception desk at around 11am if our room was available but it wasn't at that point.  The friendly reception staff checked their system and was kind enough to allocate us another room which was available. Normal check in time is at 3pm so it was great to be able to check in so early as we were so tired after our long 13 hour flight.

Our Room

We was allocated room number 1111 which was located on the 11 floor and had a great view looking out towards the Singapore Flyer, we could even see the Gardens By The Bay and Conservatories in the distance.

I was actually rather impressed with the size of the rooms as I thought that they would have been on the smaller size due to it being a city hotel and I was expecting the kitchen area to be cramped as there was a lot of amenities included but I was so wrong!

Each room comes with its own kitchen area with is great for convince, comfort and for long or short stays.  Its equipped with all of the main essentials including, a fridge/freezer, pots and pans, a kettle, coffee making machine and a toaster.  They also provide an oven as well as a washing machine! You really could stay here for a long period of time if you need to.  There is a room service available which is provided by the hotel next door but be warned, we found this to be rather expensive.

The hotel rooms are open plan with a lounge and dining area and they have a modern feel and there is plenty of storage space too.

The bed has to be one of the comfiest beds thet we have ever slept in! We had the best nights sleep!  Oh and the bed was HUGE! I don't think you can judge the size of the bed from my pictures though :(

The bathroom was nice and modern and consisted of a large vanity sink area which was great for storage.  There was also a large shower with a normal shower head and also a rainfall shower.  Personally I prefer to have a shower with both options as a normal shower head is better if its not hair washing day! ;)

The Pan Pacific is within walking distance from Gate 1 at the Formula 1 race track which includes the start/finish line.  Its a short walk from the Nicholl Highway MRT/Underground station which is great as it provides easy access to the main attractions around the city.

We thought the Pan Pacific Service Suites was a great city hotel and we would not hesitate to stay here again.

Have you ever been to Singapore before or are you thinking of going? If so, which hotel did you stay in or which hotel are you thinking of staying in?

Alexander House Hotel and Spa

Room Tour Video on YouTube - Click HERE

Hi Everyone,

So for my birthday this year Chris booked for us to stay at the Alexander House Hotel and Spa in West Sussex.  I may have given him a big hint as to which hotel to book because I fell in love with this place as soon as I visited their website at the start of this year :) I don't think he minded the hint as it made it much easier for him to know what to get me for my birthday!

We travelled down to London and spent the day at Bluewater Shopping Centre as we hadn't been shopping there for sometime.  We often go to Westfield in Stratford now but going to Bluewater was a nice change, I think I prefer it actually.

When we arrived at Alexander House we made our way towards the Manor House to check-in, we was greeted by the manager I believe, who kindly took our luggage from us and took it to reception. We was greeted by a friendly staff member who checked us in to our Cedar Lodge Garden Suite, we was allocated suite number 16 (Petworth) which was located on the first floor so we had a lovely view over the garden area.  There are rooms on the ground floor but from what we could see, their terraces were screened off so you couldn't see out into the garden, so if you are able to book a first floor room then I would recommend this.

After check-in, a young gentleman gave us a tour of the hotel pointing out the Spa, restaurants and bar areas which was really nice as we was able to get our bearings quickly.  We was then shown to our room, which was incredible!  Our luggage was waiting in the room for us.

I was so happy when walked into our room as the room was so lovely, I really do love to have a nice hotel room and most importantly, the bathroom!  We was cheeky and asked at check-in if there were any room upgrades available but we was informed that we had already booked one of the best rooms in the hotel!

The room was very big and the furnishings and decor was spot on to my taste, almost like the room was designed and styled just for me.  The bed was so huge that I almost forgot that I was sharing my bed this my then FiancĂ©, now Husband :)

On the first evening we visited the pool and jacuzzis at the Utopia Spa onsite, there are bath robes and slippers provided in the hotel rooms and it was normal to see guests walking around hotel in these.  We didn't contact the hotel early enough to book spa treatments prior to our stay but I was lucky to have booked a pedicure on our last day when someone cancelled a reservation.  If you stay at the Alexander House Hotel and Spa and wish to book spa treatments you need to do this before arrival so you don't miss out, it's worth booking the treatments when booking your hotel reservation.

The hotel pre booked us a table reservation at their Reflections restaurant prior to our arrival as they told us their restaurants get very busy so they don't want their guests to miss out, I think this is really good.  We however cancelled our table reservation and opted for in-room dining instead.  We thought we would like to spend as much time in our room as possible as it was such a nice room.  We had never ordered room service before, ever, so it was so nice to experience it in such a nice room.  Our meals were absolutely delicious and the presentation was amazing!

After probably one of the best nights sleep ever, we got up and I got to open up all of my birthday cards and presents, it was such a nice day that I got to do this on our balcony!

Our breakfast arrived in a hamper and it arrived at the exact time that we had requested.  In our hamper we received:

Croissants, pain au chocolate, toast, along with strawberry jam, marmalade, honey and butter.  A bowl each of fresh fruits, and two boxes of Rice Krispies and a bottle of milk.  We also had a pot of tea and a bottle of orange juice.  As I mentioned before we was lucky with the great English weather so we was able to eat our breakfast on our balcony.  You can also opt for a full english breakfast too.

Later on we enjoyed a game of giant chess in the beautiful sunshine, and the birthday girl won :)  After my lovely pedicure we checked out of the hotel and enjoyed a nice drink outside.  I really didn't want to leave this hotel as we had such a lovely time.  The hotel is beautiful, the staff are so welcoming and friendly and it was so nice to have a night away from everyday life.

I truly do recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to stay here.

Day 1 - Our road trip through Italy and southern France

Day 1 of the Italy/France Road Trip

In the very early hours of 22nd June 2013 we left our house in the rural countryside of England and made our 2 and a half hour journey to London Gatwick where we boarded our Easyjet flight to Rome Fiumicino airport.  The airport in Rome was very busy and we struggled to find the check-in desk for our car hire company.  We went to the area where all of the other car hire companies were based only to find that the one that we had booked with was not there!  Panic set in as we urgently needed to get to Rome as I had pre-booked tickets for the Vatican City which was due to close in a few hours!  I checked the booking confirmation to find that we needed to travel back down stairs with our luggage and needed to wait for the car hire company's transfer bus to pick us up as they were located off the airport.  Feeling a bit stress after not having any sleep from the night before, we stood outside an waited.  Chris, now my Fiance, decided to pull his wheeled suitcase off the huge curb letting the wheel buckle under the strain!  This is all we needed to start off our road trip holiday where we will be wheeling out suitcases in and out of hotels every-other day!

We picked up our car, an italian Fiat Punto, and headed into Rome.  At one point we had to do a 'hill start' in the car, where we are from there are no hills so it is always daunting, let alone doing it in a car that we have just picked up, driving on the 'wrong' side of the road and sitting on the 'wrong' side of the car!  The traffic lights turned green, the car in front of us moved annnnd we stalled it!  Turns out our car had a start/stop engine!  The cars behind started bibbing their horns but we eventually got the hang of it!

We managed to park the car down a side street near the Vatican City and we headed in the direction of the Vatican; it was so busy, I had never seen so many people!  We spent 30 mins trying to find the entrance and ending up paying 20 euros each extra for a guided tour on top of our already purchased tickets.  This actually turned out to be a really good idea, to start off with we was on the other side of the Vatican to the entrance, we would have struggled to find it, and we got a guide with us for the whole tour so we actually got to learn a few things too, bonus!  Going to the Vatican City is one of those things that everyone has to do in their life time, even just to say that you have been there!

Later on we got back in the car and headed towards our hotel.  Along the way the sat nav decided to take us the scenic route through the centre of Rome, we went passed most of the famous sites that we wanted to see including the Colosseum!  It felt like we was on a mini tour and had seen Rome by the time we had got to the hotel!

We stayed in the UNA Hotel Roma which was a lovely hotel with a brilliant location.  We will definitely stay at this hotel again when we next visit Rome.  The hotel room was clean and modern and was a perfect base for our 2 night stay.

In the evening with found a lovely outdoor restaurant close to our hotel and we had a delicious meal.

This city is so beautiful and the people are so friendly, I would recommend anyone to visit!

Welcome!

I would like to start off by saying thank you for visiting my very first blog post!  This is all very new to me and to be honest I am not too sure what I am doing!

I am unsure what exactly I will be posting on my blog so I think I will just go along with it for now.  I feel that travel might be the most blogged about subject as I love to go on holiday when I can afford to and I think that it would be amazing to be able to capture all of the stories from my travels into an online world for others to enjoy too.  I think about how amazing will it be to be able to read back on my posts in years to come and remember the little things that I may have forgotten about; hopefully I will be able to do this.

Just a little note to myself to read in years to come - Keep booking those holidays!
